YOGA, TAI CHI, and MAT PILATES
The Dorchester YMCA offers Yoga, Power Yoga, Tai Chi and now Mat Pilates.
KUNDALINI YOGA:
Kundalini yoga is the fastest way to establish a relationship between body, mind and soul. It does not create a limitation in the performance, because it does not use extremely challenging body forms. Kundalini yoga has the biggest variety of breathing techniques, coordinated movements, and postures. The movements are only done within the personal range of motion. Eyes are closed during each exercise, so that one can focus on the inside. Kundalini yoga calms down the mind and takes the anxiety away, increases the flexibility of the body, improves the function of the endocrine system, and improves coordination. Yoga helps to teach one how to relax and clear the mind.
TAI CHI:
Tai Chi is a 60 minute class composed of slow, graceful and controlled movements linked together, all while standing upright. Regular practice builds strength, enhances both muscle tone and ciculation, improves balance, flexibility, posture, coordination and range of motion.
Mat Pilates:
Mat Pilates is a 30-60 minute class designed to strengthen your "core" muscles. Different poses and breathing techniques are used to strengthen those weak spots.
